SOLTEC upgrades passenger information across the Barcelona Metro with 1,314 LCD-TFT monitors.
Manufacturer SOLTEC has supplied 1,314 monitors to upgrade the passenger information system at 128 stations on lines L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 and L11, as part of a project carried out between 2024 and 2025.
The upgrade is part of a passenger information system modernisation project launched by TMB and awarded to the ADMIRA-DOVER joint venture, which was responsible for installation. A total of 770 units have been installed, most of them featuring double-sided monitors.

Monitors designed for 24/7 operation
These single-sided and double-sided SOLTEC monitors feature an ultra-wide half-height 55-inch format and are designed as industrial-grade products for continuous 24/7 operation and a long service life. They offer a resolution of 3,840 × 1,080 pixels and a high-brightness panel, making them suitable for demanding environments such as metro stations.
The challenge: making use of existing infrastructure
One of the main challenges was adapting the new technology to the existing infrastructure. Priority was given to retaining and reusing the mounting points already in place, avoiding the need to replace all the support structures and facilitating the transition to the new system.

From LED to LCD-TFT
The upgrade replaces a previous LED-based system. The LCD-TFT monitors deliver sharper images, greater graphics capabilities and the ability to display colour, enabling clearer and more visually engaging communication.
In addition to standard service information and arrival times for upcoming trains, the system displays messages about service disruptions, recommendations and other passenger information. The monitors are installed on platforms, in station concourses and along connecting corridors, increasing the number of locations where passengers can access information.
