Barco’s smart integrated reading room solution supports the precision medicine system at Ezhou Central Hospital.

Ezhou Central Hospital is a Class III Grade A comprehensive hospital integrating healthcare, education, and research in southeastern Hubei Province, China. Guided by its mission of “virtue, knowledge, professionalism, and innovation”, the hospital is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Its modern Department of Medical Imaging, which integrates radiography, CT, MRI, and interventional radiology, is not only one of the city’s leading clinical departments but also serves as the Medical Imaging Center, Remote Diagnostic Center, and X-ray Quality Control Center for Ezhou. In addition, the department is involved in clinical services, teaching, internships, and specialist training.

By adopting Barco’s integrated reading room solution, the hospital has successfully modernised its diagnostic workflows, significantly improving the quality and efficiency of medical imaging services.

As medical imaging evolves toward higher precision, functional imaging, and multimodal fusion, the volume of data continues to grow. This trend makes efficient management and intelligent integration more critical than ever.

To address these needs, Ezhou Central Hospital developed a modern diagnostic environment at its new airport economic zone campus, implementing Barco’s integrated solution. The combination of diagnostic displays, large-format screens, intelligent conferencing systems, adjustable workstations, and integrated control panels has created a versatile environment suited to multiple scenarios, improving diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency.

Before implementation, the department faced several limitations:

• Existing displays did not clearly render complex details such as nerve pathways or cardiac flow.
• The detection of fine details, such as small breast lesions, was limited.
• No integrated quality control platform was available, requiring manual adjustments to ensure compliance with standards.

The hospital adopted Barco’s integrated solution to transform its traditional environments into an intelligent diagnostic space. A total of 9 Coronis Fusion 6MP displays, 2 Nio Color 5.8MP displays, and 14 4MP displays were installed, delivering high brightness, contrast, and precise calibration, improving the visualisation of complex details and lesion detection.The QAWeb Enterprise platform enables real-time automated quality control, ensuring consistency across all devices. In addition, two 86” screens were installed in the meeting room, supporting session management, remote collaboration, and joint training.

Ergonomic height-adjustable workstations help reduce physical strain and improve workflow efficiency.

The implementation highlights the capability of Barco’s solution to drive the digital transformation of medical diagnostics, improving both service quality and efficiency.
