Born & Raised enhances its fine dining experience with a custom 1 SOUND audio system.
At Born & Raised, every aspect of the guest experience has been carefully considered. From the architecture and interior design to the menu and service, the renowned San Diego steakhouse was created to deliver an exceptional dining atmosphere.
When it came time to upgrade the venue's sound system, CH Projects partnered with Caneno Systems and 1 SOUND to create an audio environment that matched the quality of the overall concept.
Located in downtown San Diego, the restaurant spans nearly 930 m² and accommodates between 200 and 250 guests across its main dining room, bar and rooftop terrace. The objective was to design an audio system capable of adapting to different moments throughout the service, from jazz and hip-hop during dinner to more energetic playlists later in the evening, while integrating discreetly into the carefully crafted interior by Basile Studio.
A system designed around the architecture
CH Projects and Caneno Systems worked alongside 1 SOUND throughout the design process to develop a distributed audio system tailored to the restaurant's layout, acoustics and aesthetic goals. In addition to system design support, the project made use of the 1 SOUND Custom Shop to specify custom wood finishes and polished gold metal grilles that complement the restaurant's warm material palette. The aim was for the loudspeakers to blend naturally into the interior architecture rather than stand out visually.
The result is a system that integrates seamlessly into the space while delivering the performance expected from a premium hospitality venue.
A distributed system for an immersive audio experience
The main dining room features a distributed deployment of Cannon C6i loudspeakers positioned around the space, while discreet Level L35 models are integrated into the ceiling to reinforce coverage across the central area.
To provide powerful low-frequency reinforcement without occupying valuable floor space, SUB28 subwoofers were concealed within banquette seating and custom-built furniture.
This distributed approach provides consistent coverage throughout the dining room, allowing the music to remain immersive and engaging without overpowering conversation. Guests enjoy a consistent listening experience whether seated at the bar, in a booth or anywhere else throughout the restaurant.
High-fidelity sound extends to the rooftop
The experience continues on the Born & Raised rooftop, where Cannon C6 Marine loudspeakers and WSUB45 subwoofers deliver the same high-quality audio performance to the outdoor space overlooking downtown San Diego.
Finished in custom wood through the 1 SOUND Custom Shop and equipped with A4 316 marine-grade stainless steel components, these loudspeakers are designed to withstand the demands of the coastal environment while preserving the restaurant's outdoor aesthetic.
The result is a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces, providing a consistent audio experience throughout the venue.
A system designed for the hospitality sector
The project demonstrates how a well-integrated audio system can enhance the atmosphere of a hospitality venue without drawing attention to itself.
Through discreet loudspeaker placement, custom finishes and a distributed system designed around the building's architecture, CH Projects, Caneno Systems and 1 SOUND have created an audio solution that supports the venue's changing atmosphere throughout the day—from intimate dinner service to a livelier evening ambience—while remaining virtually invisible in one of San Diego's landmark restaurants.
