A discreet AV system supports the coworking, wellness and hospitality spaces at Maslow’s new members’ house in London.

Maslow’s operates three exclusive private members’ clubs across London, combining modern coworking spaces with boutique gyms, wellness studios and hospitality-led environments.

Following the success of Mortimer House and 1 Warwick, the group has recently opened Maslow’s Kensington.

As the audiovisual system plays an essential role in both shaping the atmosphere and supporting the day-to-day functionality of the new venue, Tateside was selected to deliver a fully networked audio system, extending its existing partnership across Maslow’s other locations.

We designed a fully networked background audio system for the social and wellness areas, together with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) solutions for the presentation spaces and meeting rooms. The goal was to deliver high-quality sound that remains discreet and easy to manage, adapting to the different ways each space is used without compromising the building’s design-led aesthetic, explains Jack Cornish, Technical Director at Tateside.

The main living room, an open-plan space that serves as a bar, dining area and presentation venue, is equipped with a discreet presentation system comprising a retractable Epson laser projector, an in-ceiling projection screen, video switching, Airtame wireless presentation and Apple TV, all managed via a 5-inch Q-SYS control panel. “The partially exposed ceiling and architectural rafts required very careful coordination”, recalls Cornish. “The projection screen was concealed above the raft detail, while the projector was positioned between the rafts to minimise its visual impact”.

The audio system was also carefully designed. Four Martin Audio loudspeakers, suspended on drop rods, provide the main coverage, complemented by Sonance pendant speakers positioned between the ceiling rafts.

Finding space for low-frequency reinforcement was more challenging, as the room’s layout left little room for conventional subwoofers. To solve this, we selected 1 Sound floor subwoofers, discreetly integrated into custom joinery: two concealed inside retro-style furniture pieces and another two positioned beneath a plinth with a fluted wood finish, explains Cornish.

The Orangery on the upper floor mirrors the presentation capabilities of the main living room. “Whether using the projector downstairs or the TV upstairs, we wanted staff to enjoy the same simple and intuitive user experience”, says Cornish.

This user-friendly approach extends across the building’s nine meeting rooms. Upon entering each room, users are greeted by a custom-branded Airtame splash screen, while a USB-C cable on the table allows them to connect their own device and automatically switch the room into video conferencing mode, with the camera, microphone and loudspeakers connected directly to their laptop.

“In a coworking environment, BYOD capability is essential”, continues Cornish. “Rather than forcing users to work with a dedicated room system, the AV installation supports whatever device they bring with them, giving members and visitors the freedom to run meetings through their preferred platforms”.

Across the meeting rooms, Tateside combined Neat Bar 2 and Neat Bar Pro systems with Ashton Bentley extenders, Airtame wireless presentation and automatic switching, complemented by iPad room-booking panels. The company also delivered the audio installation for the building’s wellness areas. In the gym, Sonance pendant speakers work alongside a compact AUDAC architectural subwoofer to provide greater energy and impact, while the yoga studio uses Sonance in-ceiling speakers to deliver a more balanced sound experience tailored to instructor-led classes. Both spaces feature AUDAC NWP300 Dante Bluetooth wall plates, allowing instructors to connect their own devices, as well as Pragma SOMEO wall-mounted volume controls integrated into the Q-SYS system for easy adjustment.

On the upper floor, the apartment and adjoining coworking area required a more discreet background audio solution, using Sonance pendant and in-ceiling speakers to maintain a consistent audio experience throughout the building.

For us, this project is a great example of how a professional relationship can grow over time. We initially started working with Maslow’s on smaller support projects, but by earning their trust and understanding the way they operate, that relationship has evolved into something much more significant. Being entrusted with the Kensington project was a real milestone for us. Seeing the finished space now and knowing how seamlessly the technology has been integrated is something we are very proud of, says Cornish.
