OPTIMUS solutions for ATEX and marine installations with certified loudspeakers and vandal-resistant intercoms.
On an offshore platform, at a refinery, an energy liquid bulk terminal or a chemical plant, public address and intercom equipment does more than provide convenience or general announcements; it forms part of the occupational safety and emergency management infrastructure. Salt spray, constant corrosion and the presence of potentially explosive atmospheres require equipment designed to operate without degradation and without compromising site safety.
OPTIMUS Sound Innovation offers this sector a comprehensive range of loudspeakers and intercoms designed to operate in ATEX explosive atmospheres and highly corrosive environments. The offering is built around two technical pillars: loudspeakers from Norwegian manufacturer DNH and intercoms from J&R.
ATEX-certified loudspeakers for marine applications
For ATEX public address systems, the OPTIMUS portfolio includes DNH horn loudspeakers from the DSP and HS series, certified for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 under IIB and IIC classifications. One representative example is the DSP-25EEXMNT, a 25 W, 100 V line horn loudspeaker with an antistatic polyamide enclosure, IP66/67 protection and NEMKO ATEX IIB+H2/IIC certification.
For marine and offshore applications, the range also includes DNH models certified by Bureau Veritas for Marine & Offshore, a common requirement in industry tenders. These include the VES-561-54T ceiling loudspeaker and the CAS-15-54T aluminium column loudspeaker with IP55 protection, both featuring dual EN 54-24 and BV Marine & Offshore certification. For applications requiring additional resistance to extreme humidity, the OPTIMUS AEI-12T model is designed for marine environments.
Vandal-resistant intercoms with ATEX certification
For intercom applications, the J&R range combines ATEX certification, IP67 protection and an IK10 vandal-resistance rating in a single unit. The JREX series offers models with or without a front protective door, which prevents dirt from accumulating on the keypad and handset. The units are available in configurations tailored to different operational requirements: with keypad and telephone handset, with automatic dialling when the handset is lifted, or with hands-free communication. All JREX models are certified for ATEX Zones 1, 2 and 22.
For environments that do not require ATEX certification but demand maximum protection against weather, corrosion and intensive use, the JR series offers intercoms with IP66 and IK10 protection in equivalent configurations. It is a common solution for ship decks, port terminals, docks and outdoor areas of industrial plants.
A comprehensive solution for industrial projects
The range of DNH loudspeakers and J&R intercoms integrates into OPTIMUS' complete audio and communications architecture, which includes control units, audio matrices, microphone stations, operator consoles and management systems (the OPTIMAX platform and COMPACT system). This provides system integrators and project engineering teams with a single technical point of contact for the entire project, from the control room to the final field device in a classified area.
ATEX and marine installation projects require highly specific technical expertise and precise selection of each component according to the environment in which it will operate. At OPTIMUS, we work with internationally recognised specialist manufacturers (DNH for loudspeakers and J&R for intercoms) to provide integrators with a complete solution in which each piece of equipment meets the certifications required for its location, without the need to coordinate multiple suppliers for a single project, concludes Antonio Ruiz, Sales Director Spain, OPTIMUS.
