The comprehensive renovation of the Palacio de los Deportes in Oviedo has transformed this venue into a multipurpose space of reference in Spain.

With a capacity to host up to 9,000 people for sporting events, concerts, and shows, the arena required a communication and sound system that matched its new ambition. The answer came from OPTIMUS, together with the construction company San José and the installer ADOBER Electricidad.

Certified safety: public address and voice alarm over the network

At the heart of safety lies the OPTIMUS COMPACT system, certified under the EN 54 standard. This solution ensures quick and effective evacuation in case of emergency, with clear voice messages and zoned control. More than 329 loudspeakers strategically distributed cover corridors, entrances, and service areas, ensuring communication reaches every corner of the venue.

From DT-700ETH microphone stations to CP40-MP3BT music sources, including DA-500 power amplifiers and remote control via network, the system combines the reliability of critical safety equipment with the flexibility of a modern PA system.

Power and quality: an array to conquer the arena

The major qualitative leap can be felt in the arena itself. OPTIMUS has designed and supplied a professional sound system tailored to a venue of this size. The installation includes:

  • 40 line array speakers of 500 W RMS (2000 W peak), grouped in orientable clusters, capable of delivering up to 132 dB SPL with homogeneous coverage across the arena and stands.

  • 12 subwoofers of 1200 W RMS (4800 W peak) to reinforce low-frequency impact, essential for live music and shows.

  • 8 power amplifiers of 4 x 2400 W RMS, providing the system with generous and stable power.

  • DSP processors with equalization, delays, filters, and dynamic control to adapt the acoustic response to each event.

The result: a venue capable of moving from the intensity of a basketball game to the demands of a concert with immersive, controlled sound, always maintaining intelligibility and quality.

Total integration: a benchmark case

The project at the Palacio de los Deportes in Oviedo exemplifies how a large-scale AV installation must combine certified safety and premium sound experience. OPTIMUS has not only provided equipment but also delivered an integral design that combines evacuation PA and professional sound in one project.

For integrators, the case is a benchmark:

  • versatility: systems designed to coexist seamlessly across sports, cultural, and emergency uses.

  • efficiency: centralized control and management via network, with fine adjustment capability in DSP.

  • reliability: certified solutions that comply with regulations while enhancing the end-user experience.

With this deployment, the Palacio de los Deportes in Oviedo not only shines for its renovated architecture but also for becoming a high-demand AV model, where every detail of sound and safety is carefully designed to offer maximum confidence and performance.
