OPTIMUS announces the operational success of its OPTIMAX3 platform across Adif’s infrastructure network.
This deployment represents one of the most significant engineering milestones in the Spanish railway sector, enabling the coordination of public address and critical communications across hundreds of stations, from major terminals to small halts, under a single efficient hierarchical structure.
The challenge of centralized management
Adif manages a highly diverse network of stations that requires local autonomy without sacrificing centralized supervision. OPTIMUS’ solution organizes this complexity from the Stations Control Center (CNE) in Valdebebas, Madrid. The OPTIMAX3 architecture enables a three-level cascading management structure: global control in Valdebebas, supervision across six territorial subcenters, and individual operation at each station.

This structure ensures that even in the event of a loss of global connectivity, each node maintains its local functionality, guaranteeing service continuity and passenger safety at all times. UMX-03 Matrix: critical communications management and IP redundancy
At the core of the platform is the UMX-03 digital matrix. With redundant IP connectivity, it simultaneously manages four incoming and outgoing IP audio channels while maintaining a 16-channel internal bus for local processing. Its design includes direct integration with fire alarm systems through three supervised input contacts and safety fault relay outputs. The 32 GB internal memory ensures the availability of critical messages even during network failures, while its CAN bus allows the connection of microphone paging stations and noise sensors with continuous supervision.
Flexibility in distribution and integrated power
- For installations where existing analog amplifiers must be retained or audio needs to be distributed to remote points, the IF-822ETH and IF-804ETH interfaces transform conventional systems into IP nodes with 16 GB of internal storage.
- When the project requires distributed power, the IF-8P4ETH unit integrates IP control with up to four Class D amplifiers (from 60 to 460 W). Its hot swapping capability allows maintenance operations without interrupting railway service, an essential feature in high-availability infrastructures.

OPTIMAX3 is an architecture designed to adapt to the most demanding workflows.
