The system integrator Marquee AV provides quality sound at Kings Place, London.

Marquee AV has taken advantage of the discretion and flexibility of a compact amplifier platform for a new AV installation at Kings Place, a multifunctional space for conferences and events in King’s Cross, London.

Located in the vibrant area of King’s Cross, near landmarks like the British Library, the Bloomsbury Theatre, and the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, Kings Place is a mixed-use development that includes a center for arts and creativity, offices, event and conference rooms, as well as bars and dining areas, including a waterfront restaurant. The newly renovated Battlebridge Room is the heart of the Kings Cross complex, its modularity, natural light, and scenic views (overlooking the Regent’s Canal) make it one of the most popular spaces in the venue.

Kings Place was already a client of Marquee AV, and when it came time to upgrade the AV equipment in the Battlebridge Room, the venue turned again to Marquee to design and install the new system. Stacey Tough, director of Marquee AV and project manager for the installation at Kings Place, explains that their design philosophy was to be as discreet as possible, aligning with the sophisticated and minimalist style of both the Battlebridge Room and the rest of the venue.

To achieve this, Tough specified a Bose Professional MA12EX column speaker system, discreetly installed on either side of the screens at the focal point of the room, and compact amplifiers that offer all the power and reliability of the manufacturer’s larger products, but in a compact, easy-to-hide ½ rack unit format.

For the Battlebridge Room, Marquee opted for a two-channel amplifier that delivers 600W and 320W output respectively to the Bose Professional system. Additionally, the ultra-flexible AD models add audio networking capabilities via Dante/AES67, as well as an internal Gigabit Ethernet switch with a second port, allowing multiple products to share the same network.

With space to accommodate up to 400 people for a variety of events, including networking receptions, corporate dinners, and wedding celebrations, it was important that the Battlebridge Room’s system was flexible enough to handle a wide range of applications. With its analog and digital inputs, power-sharing capabilities, and state-of-the-art built-in DSP, the chosen platform was the ideal solution.Marquee AV kings 2 HIDesigned for corporate, hospitality, and educational applications, the system leverages Smart Rail Management (SRM) technology to reduce power consumption, providing integrators with unprecedented energy efficiency, power density, and thermal dissipation values.

By minimizing the amount of power needed to operate the amplifier, end-users can benefit from low operating costs and reductions in CO2 emissions.

Complementing the amplifiers and Bose speaker system are a Q-SYS TSC-70-G3 touch screen, a Q-SYS Core 110f v2 processor, and a Blackmagic Videohub, including a Smart Videohub 12 × 12 SDI matrix, for video content.

Commenting on the new AV system in the Battlebridge Room, Tough states:

Both aspects of AV in this space have seen significant improvements. The speaker system has greatly enhanced sound distribution throughout the conference room, and the implementation of SDI has stabilized and simplified the video routing element.

Regarding the choice of amplifiers, he adds: “We regularly use these amplifiers in our projects, as their products are high-quality and reliable. With their compact footprint, wide range of inputs, and particularly their compatibility with Dante, it was the perfect choice to deliver high-quality audio and remote control and monitoring of the new AV system”.
