Cybersecurity is becoming a selection criterion as important as resolution, analytics or integration in video surveillance projects. Against this backdrop, Hikvision has obtained the European Cybersecurity Scheme on Common Criteria (EUCC) certification for its DeepinView network cameras, becoming, according to the company, the first manufacturer in the industry to achieve this certification for this type of device.
The EUCC certification establishes a common European framework for evaluating the security of technology products. Its purpose is to verify that devices meet specific requirements against vulnerabilities and incorporate appropriate mechanisms to protect system integrity, communications and processed data.
For the certified DeepinView cameras, the evaluation covered areas including user authentication, access control, secure communications, event logging, security auditing and vulnerability management.
Cybersecurity becomes part of system specification
Obtaining this certification is particularly relevant at a time when video surveillance is increasingly integrated into connected infrastructures. The convergence of physical security, IP networks, IoT platforms and management systems expands the attack surface, requiring system integrators, consultants and end users to assess not only the functional capabilities of equipment, but also its cybersecurity performance.
Having products evaluated under a common framework can simplify the specification of solutions for corporate projects, public administrations, control centres and critical infrastructure, where traceability, auditability and regulatory compliance are becoming increasingly important.
The certification alone does not eliminate the risks associated with an installation. Overall security still depends on factors such as device configuration, network segmentation, credential management, firmware updates and maintenance policies implemented throughout the system's lifecycle.
