Light and technology will shine once again in Frankfurt with Light + Building 2026, where creativity and sustainability come together.

To date, around 2,000 companies from Germany and abroad — including numerous market leaders, specialized suppliers, and emerging talents — have confirmed their participation. The range spans from major international brands to creative startups setting new trends in lighting and building-services technology.

The sector is undergoing a major transformation: energy efficiency, digitalization, and sustainability dominate the agenda, while companies adapt flexibly to market changes such as rising construction and energy costs or international trade tensions. This is precisely where Light + Building plays an essential role, by connecting key topics, providing guidance, and creating a platform for international exchange of ideas and information.

Light + Building 2026 is moving forward with great momentum. We are pleased to see a high level of participation from market leaders and strong interest from the industry. In particular, the international participation — around 70% — shows that the fair continues to be an indispensable global meeting point. The theme of Light + Building 2026 will be Be Electrified – Electrifying Places. Illuminating Spaces, highlighting the two major strengths of this international event: intelligent energy infrastructure and advanced lighting solutions.

While Electrifying Places represents connected buildings, smart control systems, and energy efficiency, Illuminating Spaces focuses on the creative power of light. These ideas are reflected in the fair’s three key themes:

• Sustainable Transformation: strategies to achieve a climate-friendly building sector through renewable energy, intelligent energy management, and sustainable materials.
• Smart Connectivity: digital transformation through connected systems, data-driven control, and interfaces that increase efficiency, safety, and comfort.
• Living Light: the emotional and creative dimension of light as a defining element of human identity, well-being, and spatial experience.

In the field of lighting, the offering extends from functional systems for work, education, industry, and public spaces to design luminaires that not only provide light but also shape spaces and create unique atmospheres.

More than just a trade fair: where experience meets inspiration

In addition to traditional activities, Light + Building 2026 will feature a wide-ranging program focused on current trends, technological advances, and design. Forums, stages, and interactive formats throughout the exhibition grounds will provide multiple opportunities for professional exchange.

One of the main highlights will be the Design Plaza in Hall 3.1, dedicated to lighting design, featuring lectures, talks, and curated spaces for interior designers, architects, designers, and lighting planners. There, Messe Frankfurt and Stylepark will present the Designplus Awards powered by Light + Building, which honor products that exemplarily combine design, technological innovation, and sustainability. The Designplus label symbolizes technical and aesthetic excellence with international recognition. The program will also include lighting trends for 2025/2026 by the bora.herke.palmisano agency, which identifies the design trends that will define the upcoming season.

For the first time, Light + Building will host the IALD International Lighting Design Awards, recognizing outstanding lighting projects from around the world. Additionally, Architects’ Day will offer targeted inspiration for planners and architects.

Other key spaces include Workshop Street, focused on live demonstrations for the electrical trade; the Power Creator Days, where content creators in the lighting and building technology sectors can connect with exhibitors and visitors; the ZVEI Technology Forum and the ZVEH E-House, an interactive smart home showcasing real-world applications. The program will also feature presentations from exhibitors and events organized by the BTGA, the House of Energy Congress, the IEECB Congress at the Portalhaus, and a special session by REHVA.
