Barco launches SlideRightQA, AI-powered software for quality assurance in digital pathology.
The company has introduced SlideRightQA, an in-house developed software that uses artificial intelligence and is compatible with any manufacturer, designed for quality control in digital pathology laboratories.
By automating quality review of whole slide images, SlideRightQA supports continuous process improvement as well as time and cost savings for labs working digitally.
Streamlining lab process workflows through robust quality control
SlideRightQA can operate 24/7 and functions as a copilot for lab QC staff. It identifies even the smallest quality issues in scanned digital pathology slides. This enables staff to filter and triage immediately and ensure that only the highest quality images continue in the workflow to the pathologists’ queues.
We have developed this software in collaboration with the Michigan Medicine Department of Pathology Labs. They have already reported spectacular results, such as 11.5 to 24 hours of scan tech working time saved each day, says Danny Deroo, Director of Product Management Innovation at Barco.
Helping labs prepare for AI support by guaranteeing high-quality data
SlideRightQA also empowers digital pathology organizations to become AIready by ensuring that they process only high-quality whole slide images. Storing only qualitative data is a prerequisite for training and inferring (clinical) AI models correctly , for example for automated recognition of specific tumor types.
Our AI model has been trained on a large amount of anonymized data and is updated continuously. SlideRightQA only processes anonymized data and has no access to any patient information. It is designed with adherence to both the GDPR and HIPAA, continues Danny Deroo.
By eliminating the need for manual quality and compliance review of every whole slide image, SlideRightQA helps labs streamline workflows, increase efficiency and save time and money.
