The Olmeca Refinery has implemented various Christie® solutions in its control rooms and offices.

This has included LED and LCD video walls, video wall processors, and a 30,000-lumen 3DLP® projector.

The Olmeca Refinery is located in the port of Dos Bocas in the Mexican state of Tabasco and has been developed to have a processing capacity of 340,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The construction site covers a total of 556 hectares. The project consists of 17 processing plants, 56 storage tanks, 34 spheres, workshops, administrative and service buildings, and control rooms.

The facility required a main control room to supervise and monitor oil production, several control rooms for surveillance throughout the refinery, and boardrooms to enhance communication and productivity.

The video walls were essential to display scalable video content from various sources simultaneously, including a wide range of camera feeds, SCADA systems from remote sites, and productivity KPIs.

Christie's video walls were chosen for their high quality and brightness, and for the advantage of having a complete control room portfolio with a single brand, says Dimas López, General Director of Technology Solutions in Mexico (STM), the Christie project integrator.

In the main control room, eight 1.4mm pixel pitch Christie Core Series LED video walls were installed, each measuring 8.5 x 3.2 meters. "These systems stand out for their flexibility and scalability, as well as their low maintenance," notes Dimas López.

In the tactical room, two Christie LCD video walls were implemented in a 4x2 configuration with HD resolution (1920x1080) and a sub-1mm bezel. Another control room incorporated a 3x2 LCD video wall with HD resolution (1920x1080) and a sub-1mm bezel.

To manage all the video walls, 30 Christie video wall processing nodes were installed, allowing users to view, listen, and interact simultaneously with any information source throughout the refinery control rooms.

Ultimately, the installed video walls allow the various refinery teams to share critical information in different control rooms, combining multiple sources simultaneously to get an accurate view of what is happening at all times and make the best decision in the shortest time possible, explains Dimas López.

In various boardrooms of the refinery, 16 Christie 86” 4K UHD resolution LCD panels were installed. The refinery also incorporated a 30,000-lumen Christie 3DLP projector in a room to showcase the history of the Olmec civilization.

The installation process with Christie's field engineers was smooth, and they provided great local support during the design and installation phases. The system has worked as we designed it with Renán Lazcano from Christie's office in Mexico. Based on the feedback we have received from the end user, we have been very successful, concludes Dimas López.
