The iconic Cocor Shopping Centre in Bucharest has unveiled a major renovation of its massive digital screen.

This impressive installation, one of the most recognisable features of the city’s urban landscape, has been modernised with Absen’s state-of-the-art LED technology.

This landmark project was carried out by local AV integration company ELTEK, demonstrating the synergy between international innovation and regional technical expertise to deliver a striking visual experience for the city’s residents and visitors.

The renovation has completely transformed the façade, improving its visual performance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability, in line with modern standards of quality and sustainability.

Absen Cocor 3 HIFor years, the Cocor Centre façade has been a symbol of dynamic urban advertising in Bucharest. However, its old LED system, based on outdated technology, had become costly and difficult to maintain.
High energy consumption and frequent technical issues made it inefficient and unable to support modern digital visual campaigns. In addition, the content management system was also outdated and lacked modern automation features, further limiting its potential.

Initially, the client aimed to replace the old equipment, but a technical analysis revealed that the existing mounting structure was not compatible with the new-generation displays. This led to a much larger project: to completely rebuild the physical and digital infrastructure of the façade.

The work included dismantling the previous system, redesigning the support structure, and installing an advanced technical solution designed to operate 24/7, with centralised control, synchronised playback, and real-time adaptability.

The transformation was led by ELTEK, the largest AV/IT systems integrator in Romania and the Balkan region. It began with a full technical analysis and expanded the project scope from a simple equipment replacement to a complete reconstruction of the media infrastructure. This required ELTEK’s specialised teams, including certified utility climbers, to dismantle the old system and redesign the support structure using modular Sikla components, ensuring mechanical compatibility, safety, and optimal aesthetic integration.

Absen’s LED technology was chosen for its outstanding balance of performance, durability, and energy efficiency, making it the ideal solution for modernising the shopping centre’s DOOH (Digital Out-Of-Home) capabilities.

The Absen A0621 solution stood out to ELTEK thanks to its impressive specifications, including IP65 protection, 7,500 nits brightness, 15,000 Hz refresh rate, and an aluminium housing with both front and rear access, ensuring seamless, continuous operation in demanding urban conditions. In addition, the system is backed by a five-year warranty and ongoing technical support from Absen.

Absen’s LED technology impressed us not only with its exceptional brightness, durability, and outdoor readiness, but also with the professionalism and quick response of their team throughout the process. Absen’s displays offer the perfect combination of visual impact and engineering precision, and working with them allowed us to realise our vision for the Cocor Centre’s media façade with confidence and efficiency, said Marian Iancu, AV Design Engineer at ELTEK.

Absen Cocor 2 HITo support high-performance content distribution, a hybrid network of fibre optics and CAT6A cabling was implemented, including active video converters, industrial-grade racks, and professional controllers. This infrastructure enables synchronised playback across all LED surfaces, delivering a cohesive and impactful visual experience.

Supporting the transformation of the Cocor Shopping Centre was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the strength of our outdoor LED technology. Working with ELTEK was seamless — they understood the vision, and together we delivered a visually impressive and long-term solution. We’re proud to have helped transform one of Bucharest’s most iconic commercial spaces into a modern digital landmark, said Benjamin Phelps, Retail Industry Director at Absen.

For the Cocor Centre, this transformation represents much more than just a technological upgrade: it is the creation of a robust, scalable media platform capable of supporting complex campaigns in one of Bucharest’s most visible commercial spaces.

The new façade delivers vibrant, fluid content both day and night, regardless of lighting conditions, establishing Cocor Media Channel as a reference point for brands seeking premium urban exposure.
