The Barcelona Zoo has enhanced its communication and security with an OPTIMUS public address system.

Opened in 1892 and covering 13 hectares, the Barcelona Zoo hosts one of the most extensive wildlife collections on the continent and is a benchmark in conservation, education, and animal welfare.

To improve communication within the enclosure and ensure the dissemination of messages and alerts in case of fire, on March 4, 2025, the Zoo’s new public address and voice alarm system was commissioned, consisting of 19 COMPACT LITE units strategically distributed throughout the premises.

Thanks to this system, scheduled messages and announcements are broadcast flawlessly and precisely, ensuring that the information reaches every corner of the park, regardless of ambient noise or visitor crowds. This type of installation is key to guaranteeing safety in open spaces and the proper management of emergencies in high-traffic public environments.

For convenient and centralized management, the system features a DT-700ETH microphone and Call Point software, which facilitate the broadcasting and scheduling of automatic messages. In addition, the speakers used are exponential outdoor type, ensuring powerful, intelligible, and clear sound at any point in the zoo, even under adverse weather conditions.

COMPACT LITE: cutting‑edge technology for Zoo security

The OPTIMUS COMPACT LITE is an all‑in‑one public address and voice evacuation solution, designed to adapt to all types of spaces—in this case, a zoo—although it can be implemented in any open area such as parks, markets, etc. Each unit features two 460 W RMS amplifiers, an integrated battery charger, and the capability to manage up to 8 speaker zones per device, ensuring complete coverage of the area.

This system not only allows the broadcast of real‑time alerts and pre‑recorded messages, but also offers IP connectivity, redundancy in audio inputs, and continuous monitoring of all components. Moreover, its compatibility with VoIP, JSON, and API/DLL makes it a flexible and scalable option for venues with changing requirements.
